The Mission
Westport Green Village Initiative ("GVI") is a volunteer-based grass roots non-profit established in Fall 2008 to support Westporters passionate about creating local environmental and community change. Our mission is to make Westport a model of what is possible. Projects to date have included creating the Wakeman Town Farm & Sustainabilty Center and Staples High School Edible Garden, protecting the Bag Ban legislation, funding our Farmers Market and Earthplace energy study, sponsoring the Sherwood Mill Pond Preserve, Eco-Fest, numerous film/lecture presentations and doing similar things in surrounding towns.
We work in Westport because it is our town, but with the goal of creating a model that can “travel” outside Westport. Ridgefield and Fairfield have launched GVIs and we have big plans for Bridgeport.
We are here for the long term and we appreciate the support of the amazing town government and education officials/staff who have made our projects possible.
